Digital UltrasoundDiagnostic ultrasound machines utilize sound waves to safely penetrate the skin and interact with the different tissues in the body. The various types of tissues have different densities and reflect these sound waves at different intensities. The diagnostic ultrasound machine then creates an image from the reflected sound waves. The latest portable digital ultrasound machines are very sensitive diagnostic tools with which the veterinarian can detect injury to muscle, tendon, ligament, bone and other tissues. We commonly utilize the ultrasound to visualize and evaluate injured tendons, suspensory ligaments, abscesses, joints, chip fractures and lung pathology. We also utilize the ultrasound to perform guided injections. When injecting PRP or stem cells into tendon or ligament lesions, the ultrasound machine allows us to visualize our needle to be certain we accurately inject our therapy directly into the lesion. |
